Amazon Image Requirements
Image Compliance Standards
Amazon Image Requirements encompass both compliance standards and file naming conventions that product images must follow to be successfully listed on Amazon’s Vendor Central platform. Non-compliance can result in image suppression, affecting product visibility and sales performance.
File Requirements: Images must meet specific technical criteria including proper file formats and sizing. Accepted formats are JPG, TIF, PNG, and GIF. Files should maintain high resolution for optimal display across different device types.
Content Standards: Main images require a pure white background and must show only the product without additional items, packaging, or obstructive elements. The product should fill at least 85% of the image frame to ensure clear visibility.
Quality and Clarity: All images must be sharp, clear, and free from blurriness or pixelation. Images should accurately represent the product’s actual appearance, color, and proportions to maintain customer trust.
Prohibited Content: Text overlays, logos, watermarks, promotional messaging, or branding elements are not permitted on product images. Additionally, any suggestive, explicit, or inappropriate content violates Amazon’s content policies.
File Naming Convention
Naming Structure: Image files must follow a specific three-component structure separated by periods: product identifier, variant code, and file extension. This format ensures proper linking to product detail pages and prevents upload errors.
Product Identifier: The first component can be any of the following: barcode number, ASIN, UPC, ISBN (10 or 13 digits), EAN, GTIN, SKU, or JAN. This identifier must match an active product in Amazon’s catalog.
Variant Code: The second component is a four-character code that indicates the image type and position. Common codes include .MAIN
for primary product images, .PT01
through .PT08
for additional product views, .BOTT
for bottom views, and .BACK
for rear-facing images.
File Extension: The final component specifies the image format (.jpg, .tif, .png, or .gif) and must correspond to the actual file type.
Formatting Rules: Avoid spaces, dashes, underscores, or additional characters in file names as these can cause upload failures. Each component should be clearly separated by a single period with no additional punctuation.
Troubleshooting: If file name errors occur during upload, verify that the product identifier corresponds to an active item in Amazon’s catalog and that the naming convention follows the exact three-component structure without deviation.
Proper adherence to both compliance standards and naming conventions is essential for successful image uploads and optimal product presentation on Amazon’s marketplace.
