EU Detergents Regulation
EU Detergents Regulation sets out the requirements for detergent products sold in the EU. It addresses the biodegradability of detergents, necessary dosage information, and the provision of consumer information through labeling and online platforms.
-
Labeling: Detergent packaging must include the product name, responsible party’s contact details, ingredient content, usage instructions, and any special precautions. Specific requirements apply to consumer laundry detergents.
-
Manufacturer Responsibilities: Manufacturers, including producers, importers, and packagers, are responsible for ensuring product compliance. Obligations include providing testing documentation and making ingredient information accessible to authorities and medical personnel. Manufacturers must be based in the EU.
-
Biodegradability Standards: Surfactants meeting “ultimate aerobic biodegradation” criteria can be sold freely. Other surfactants require a derogation for sale.
Distributors hold obligations under the General Product Safety Directive to inform authorities if products pose risks.
This regulation aims to ensure the safety and compliance of detergent products within the EU market.
