European Accessibility Act (EAA)
The European Accessibility Act (EAA) will be applicable from June 28, 2025, aiming to harmonize accessibility laws across EU countries. It ensures that products and services crucial for persons with disabilities are accessible, reducing divergent requirements.
Scope: The EAA affects computers, operating systems, smartphones, TV equipment, and e-readers among others.
Compliance: Products must pass a conformity assessment and obtain a declaration for the CE mark. Additionally, it should adhere to other regulations like the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive.
Requirements for Sale: From June 2025, listings on platforms like Amazon must comply with EAA, else they’ll be removed if found non-compliant.
Manufacturers should ensure product descriptions include accessibility features and comply with necessary regulations to remain in the EU market.
