GB FCM Regulation
The GB FCM Regulation refers to Commission Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, which is the overarching law for food contact materials in Great Britain, including England, Scotland, and Wales. Post-Brexit, this law has been retained and amended to suit the UK’s regulatory framework. The regulation mandates that food contact materials must not release substances harmful to human health, alter food composition, taste, or odor, and must adhere to good manufacturing practices.
- Scope: Covers materials intended for food contact, already in contact with food or expected to contact food under normal use.
- Compliance: Requires a Declaration of Compliance (DoC) for specific materials, compliance testing, and documentation.
- Labeling: Must not mislead consumers and must include relevant information for traceability.
Businesses are required to maintain systems ensuring traceability and compliance with these regulations to sell within Great Britain.
