Phishing and Spoofing
Phishing and spoofing are fraudulent techniques used to acquire sensitive information by pretending to be a trustworthy entity, like Amazon. These fake communications can appear as emails, phone calls, or SMS, designed to trick users into revealing account details such as passwords or financial information.
Phishing emails often feature poor grammar or typographical errors and may direct users to counterfeit websites mimicking Amazon. Legitimate Amazon emails come from addresses ending in a country-specific Amazon domain, such as @amazon.de. It’s crucial to verify sender details and avoid clicking links in suspicious messages.
Amazon will never request personal information like National Insurance numbers, bank details, or passwords via these methods. Defensive actions include reporting spoofed communications and never engaging with such fraudulent messages.
