A thorough preparation of the search terms will make your future product sales much easier. The key question is: What search terms will help you find the item? What does Amazon SEO mean? This means that the potential future customers use completely different search terms for one and the same product. Today's article deals in detail with the topic of searching for the right search term

Amazon SEO: Matching search terms and combinations of search terms

Amazon SEO is the process of finding the right keywords and keyword combinations. These are important, because they are required for integration in the following points:

  • Product title
  • Attributes
  • Product description
  • Search term fields

Amazon SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. The focus is on the findability of your website in the search engines, primarily Amazon. You have to find out which search terms are relevant for your product. Only then can these be optimally accommodated in the product listing. Of course you can also test which variants of a product listing generate the most sales. In this article, however, the focus is primarily on search term research.

For example, if you want to sell a wallet, there are various generic terms for this:

  • Wallet
  • Purse
  • Money purse
  • ...

To find out what term prospective buyers can search for when they want to buy a new wallet, there are appropriate tools. Some of the functions presented below can also be found in our Amazon Tool AMALYTIX.

Ask Amazon using Amazon Suggest

Amazon Suggest refers to Amazon's suggestions. The terms of your search are supplemented by matching ones from Amazon. Amazon thus guesses what you are looking for. The image below shows the possible categories (in this example these are cases, backpacks & bags and shoes & handbags) and advanced search terms like men, women, leather, large or small. This will give you an optimal starting point for terms that you should include in the listing.

This searching can be further refined if you also enter the advanced search terms. The following terms will be added: wristlet or zipper.

Google Suggest - tried and tested

Now you can also consult Google to get more ideas for keywords. To do this, take the following image for demonstration purposes:

AMALYTIX Keyword Tool - Free of charge and efficient

To avoid having to enter every generic and subordinate term manually in order to get a complete list, you can use our Keyword Tool in our Software. The tool queries the search engines you have selected for all possible additions.

It not only searches for combinations in which the keyword is at the beginning, but also for variants in which the search term occurs in the middle or at the end, for the example "noble wallet". For the keyword "wallet", the tool retrieves 673 terms, combinations and variants.

You could now proceed accordingly for the other search terms such as portmonee. Afterwards the list will be very long with lots of ideas. But the essential is still missing, because it is still unclear which keywords are the most important ones. Now Google comes into play again.

Use Google Keyword Planner through Google Ads account

Assuming you have an active Google Ads account (which can be created quickly if you don't have one yet), the Keyword Planner is ideal for further research. Since Google strives to offer its advertisers as many ideas as possible to get even more ads, you can use the Keyword Planner to find out how high the search volume for a term is, i.e. how often it is searched for. You can find the Google Keyword Planner at: https://adwords.google.de/KeywordPlanner

Google Keyword Planner Homepage

In the Google Keyword Planner you can start with a click on Discover new keywords. There you have the options Start with keywords and Start with a web page to search for new keywords:

Enter keywords in the search bar of the Google Keyword Planner

The option Start with keywords is very suitable for quickly obtaining initial research results. Here you can use up to 10 keywords, which will be used by the Google algorithm as a basis for the keyword search. Here you should make sure to use keywords that are closely related to your products, services or companies in general. For our example we use

  • Wallet
  • Purse
  • *Pocket and
  • Moneybag

as search terms:

Then click on Show results and you will find what you are looking for immediately:

Search for further keywords related to the keyword Wallet using the Google Keyword Planner

Google generously gives you more keyword ideas. In our example, a total of 3.844 additional keyword ideas are available.

Determine search volume for each combination

It is important for your project to find out which search terms are most frequently requested. This is also provided by Google. With a click on the column "Average search queries per month " the search terms are sorted in descending order according to the most frequent, average search queries per month. You can now easily see which terms should be included in your Amazon product listing.

Tip: You can experiment a lot with the keyword planner, because it offers many useful features to create keyword lists. You can create any keyword combination or suggest search terms based on existing websites, including Amazon listings.
