A tealight holder for €16.90. After landed cost, Amazon fees and returns, the worked example leaves €1.37 per order, before advertising and overheads. With Fulfillment by Amazon, shipping is only part of the bill: Amazon FBA fees also cover surcharges, storage, returns, and removal or disposal. On every sale, the referral fee comes on top.

A shared box does not save fulfillment fees either: if a customer orders the same item four times, you pay four times. Amazon charges every unit it ships separately.

This page covers the European fees, with amazon.de as the example. US fees differ. All fees in this article come from the Amazon rate card valid from 1 July 2026 (as of October 2026) and apply to amazon.de. Most table values have not changed since December 2025 and February 2026. The July card is a re-issue, not a price increase.

New from 2 November 2026

The fuel and logistics-related surcharge rises from 1.5% to 2% of the fulfillment fee on 2 November 2026. The July rate card and sell.amazon.de still say 1.5%. Source: Amazon help page FBA fees.

Which costs Amazon FBA charges

These items belong in your calculation:

You pay the referral fee even when you ship yourself. It is not an FBA fee, but it belongs in the calculation. The rate depends on the category; you find them all in the article on Amazon seller fees. With a Professional selling account you also pay €39 net per month.

The EU rate card has no inbound placement fee like the one in the US. It has no excess inventory fee either. Amazon controls how much stock you may send in through capacity limits.

Amazon FBA fulfillment fees

Size tier and dimensional weight

The fulfillment fee depends on three things: the size tier of the packed unit, its weight, and where the stock sits (in the Central Europe Programme or in Germany only).

For parcels and oversize, the higher of two weights counts: the weight of the packed unit or the dimensional weight. Dimensional weight is length × width × height in cm divided by 5,000. For envelopes, Low-Price FBA and special oversize, only the unit weight counts.

With packaging, the tealight holder weighs only 450 g. But its box measures 20 × 20 × 20 cm: 8,000 ÷ 5,000 = 1.6 kg dimensional weight. Light on the scale, but a 1.6 kg parcel in the fee calculation.

Fees for envelopes and parcels

In the tables, “With CEP” means stock in the Central Europe Programme (storage in Poland and the Czech Republic as well), and “DE only” means German stock outside this program. All amounts are per unit, without the fuel surcharge.

Envelopes: the light envelope and the standard envelope measure at most 33 × 23 × 2.5 cm, the large envelope 33 × 23 × 4 cm, the extra-large envelope 33 × 23 × 6 cm.

The small parcel is out for the tealight holder: it may be only 12 cm high. With 1.6 kg shipping weight, it falls into the standard parcel up to 1.9 kg: €3.95 DE only.

Oversize fees

Anything larger or heavier than a standard parcel is oversize. Amazon distinguishes:

  • Small oversize: up to 61 × 46 × 46 cm, up to 1.76 kg, dimensional weight up to 25.82 kg
  • Standard oversize light: up to 101 × 60 × 60 cm, up to 15 kg, dimensional weight up to 72.72 kg
  • Standard oversize heavy: up to 101 × 60 × 60 cm, over 15 kg up to 23 kg
  • Standard oversize large: up to 120 × 60 × 60 cm, up to 23 kg, dimensional weight up to 86.40 kg
  • Bulky oversize: over 120 × 60 × 60 cm, up to 23 kg, dimensional weight up to 126 kg
  • Heavy oversize: over 23 kg up to 31.5 kg, dimensional weight up to 126 kg

The fee is a base amount up to the base weight plus an amount for each additional kilogram.

Bulky oversize760 g€8.24€0.27
Heavy oversize31.5 kg€13.00€0.15

With CEP: €0.26 less. Oversize has no peak season uplift. For heavy oversize, the per-kg amount applies when the dimensional weight is above 31.5 kg: the unit weight may be at most 31.5 kg, the dimensional weight up to 126 kg.

Special oversize applies to units over 31.5 kg, with a longest side over 175 cm or a girth over 360 cm. In Germany it costs €21.30 up to 30 kg, €24.19 up to 40 kg, €47.98 up to 50 kg, €51.99 up to 60 kg and €0.36 for each additional kg above that.

In Pan-European FBA, the Pan-EU oversize surcharge applies when the country of storage is not the country of sale. In Germany it ranges from €1.64 (small oversize) to €5.50 (heavy oversize), plus an amount per kg.

Selected categories with their own parcel table

Some categories have their own parcel table: baby strollers, door, window and shower accessories, eyewear protection, footwear, furniture accessories, grocery, home adhesives and cable ties, home linen and rugs, luggage accessories, mattresses, packing material, pet clothing and food, printer accessories, reusable work gloves, clothing and accessories, and backpacks and handbags. Here only the unit weight counts. The base amount covers up to 100 g; each further 100 g adds a fixed amount.

With CEP: €0.26 less. So these categories have peak season fees too: €0.21 to €0.28 more per unit, depending on the parcel. Source: Amazon help page 2026 festive season peak fulfillment fee.

Low-Price FBA

Low-Price FBA replaces the former “Small and Light” program, which ended in 2023. It applies automatically to low-priced items; you do not need to enroll. Since early 2026 the price limit is €20 including VAT, and €12 in the categories Beauty, Health and Personal Care, Business, Industry and Science, Office Products, Grocery, Books, Amazon Device Accessories and Kitchen. This applies to Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium and Ireland.

Only the unit weight counts, and there is no peak season uplift.

Extra-large envelope, 960 g€2.78€3.04
Small parcel, 150 g€2.78€3.04
Small parcel, 400 g€2.99€3.25

According to Amazon, the rate applies to items up to 400 g; the rate card lists envelope tiers up to 960 g. So plan with Low-Price FBA only if your item stays under 400 g.

Cheap alone is not enough: the tealight holder costs less than €20, but at 20 × 20 × 20 cm it exceeds the small parcel dimensions, and it weighs 450 g. It stays on the standard rate.

Surcharges on the fulfillment fee

Fuel surcharge

Amazon calls it the “fuel and logistics-related surcharge”. Since 17 April 2026 it has been 1.5% of the fulfillment fee. From 2 November 2026 it rises to 2% in the Amazon stores in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Ireland and Belgium. For Multi-Channel Fulfillment the increase applies from 19 November 2026. Amazon calls the surcharge temporary and gives no end date. The July rate card still says 1.5%.

The surcharge applies to the fulfillment fee, also in peak season. For the tealight holder in the standard parcel up to 1.9 kg, DE only, that means: €3.95 × 1.02 = approx. €4.03. Amazon does not publish how exactly it rounds. According to Amazon, the Revenue Calculator and the Fee Preview report include the surcharge (FBA fulfillment fees). The Fee Preview has no separate column for it.

Peak season fees

Higher fulfillment fees apply to orders delivered between 15 October 2026 and 14 January 2027. The delivery date counts, not the order date or the inbound date. In Germany this affects only small and standard parcels: €0.21 to €0.44 more per unit, depending on weight. This also applies to the categories with their own parcel table, for example clothing and shoes. Oversize, Low-Price FBA and shipments from Germany to another country are exempt. From 15 January 2027 the normal fees apply again.

The peak values are in the “Peak DE only” column of the parcel tables and of the table for selected categories.

Surcharge without the Central Europe Programme (CEP)

If your German stock is not in the Central Europe Programme, you pay €0.26 more for every unit shipped from a German fulfillment center. The surcharge applies to the standard rates and to Low-Price FBA. In the program, Amazon may also store your goods in Poland and the Czech Republic. Units that Amazon ships from Poland to customers in Germany are charged the German domestic fee. Returns within the programme count as local returns.

Low-inventory-level fee (Pan-EU)

Amazon’s rate card calls it the “Pan-EU low-inventory cost coverage fee”. It has existed since 2024. It affects only standard-size products in Pan-European FBA and units shipped in Germany, France, Italy or Spain. Amazon charges it only when the days of supply are below 28 days over both 90 days and 30 days.

Size< 14 days14 to < 2121 to < 28
Light envelope up to 100 g€0.27€0.18€0.16
Standard envelope up to 460 g€0.41€0.25€0.18
Large and extra-large envelope, small parcel up to 3.9 kg€0.46€0.27€0.18
Standard parcel up to 11.9 kg€0.67€0.35€0.21

Exempt are:

  • oversize and special oversize
  • Professional sellers who are new to Pan-EU, for their first 365 days
  • items new to Pan-EU that are part of “FBA New Selection”, for their first 180 days
  • items with fewer than 20 units sold in the last 7 days in Germany, France, Italy and Spain combined
  • since February 2025 also Grade & Resell, Renewed and meltable products

Lithium batteries and dangerous goods

Products with lithium batteries and dangerous goods cost €0.10 more per unit on top of the fulfillment fee. Storing dangerous goods has its own rates; see Monthly storage fees.

Amazon FBA storage fees

Monthly storage fees

Amazon charges storage per cubic metre and month. From October to December it is much more expensive. The rates apply to Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium and Ireland.

CategoryJan–SepOct–Dec
Standard size: clothing, accessories, eyewear, shoes, backpacks, handbags€19.99€29.23
Standard size: all other categories€27.54€52.20
Oversize€21.78€34.49
Dangerous goods, standard size€30.00€50.51
Dangerous goods, oversize€27.50€43.89

You work out the storage cost per unit like this: volume of the unit in m³ × rate. The tealight holder has 20 × 20 × 20 cm = 0.008 m³. That gives 0.008 × €27.54 = €0.22 per month, and from October to December 0.008 × €52.20 = €0.42.

Storage utilization surcharge

In Germany, France, Italy and Spain, a storage utilization surcharge can come on top of the storage fee. For this, Amazon divides your average daily storage volume by your average daily shipped volume over the last 13 weeks. The result is the storage utilization ratio in weeks. Amazon measures it on the last day of the month, separately for standard size and oversize.

Utilization ratio (weeks)Standard sizeOversize
up to 22€0€0
over 22 to 28€14.85€4.29
over 28 to 36€27.05€7.92
over 36 to 44€37.61€13.37
over 44 to 52€46.55€17.33
over 52€76.87€23.10

Amounts per m³ and month. No surcharge applies to new sellers whose first shipment was less than 52 weeks ago, Individual sellers, sellers with less than 25 cubic feet of daily storage volume, and clothing, eyewear, shoes and bags.

Aged inventory surcharge

After 240 days in the warehouse, waiting for the next buyer gets more expensive: a surcharge is added to the storage fee every month. The rate card calls it the “aged inventory surcharge”. In German Seller Central it is called „Aufschlag für Altbestand im Lager“. In the German interface, you see the expected cost under Lieferkette › Amazon Lagerbestand verwalten (supply chain › manage FBA inventory), in the column for the expected aged inventory surcharge. It applies in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Ireland. Amazon checks inventory age on the 15th of each month. If the unit sells shortly after, there is no refund.

Inventory age€ per m³ and month
241–270 days€47.99
271–300 days€125.16
301–330 days€129.92
331–365 days€135.98
366–455 days€227.63 or €0.20 per unit
over 455 days€261.97 or €0.25 per unit

Inventory age and expected aged inventory surcharge columns in Seller Central

The FBA inventory page in Seller Central shows inventory age in bands and the expected aged inventory surcharge (German interface). Product data blurred.

From 366 days, the higher of the two amounts applies. The 241–270 day band does not apply to clothing and accessories, shoes, backpacks and handbags, luggage, jewelry and watches. Source: Amazon help page Aged inventory surcharge.

The once-a-year long-term storage fee no longer exists. Since 1 August 2019, Amazon in the EU has charged stock older than 365 days monthly. Today the surcharge starts after 240 days.

Amazon FBA return costs

With FBA, Amazon receives and processes the returns. Amazon takes the purchase price back from your seller account.

Returns processing fee for high return rates

Since 1 February 2025, Amazon has charged a “returns processing fee” for products with a high return rate. It applies in all categories except clothing, accessories and shoes. Amazon charges it only for the returned units above the category threshold. The return rate is the units shipped in one month and returned in that month or the two following months.

No fee applies if a product ships fewer than 25 units in a month. For “FBA New Selection”, Amazon waives the fee for up to 20 units per eligible standard-size parent ASIN. Amazon charges the fee between the 7th and the 15th of the third following month.

Per returned unit in Germany it costs, for example, €2.22 to €2.42 for a light envelope, €3.38 (150 g) to €5.64 (11.9 kg) for a standard parcel, and €3.98 plus €0.34 per kg for small oversize. Source: Amazon help page Returns processing fee.

Clothing, shoes and accessories

Clothing, accessories and shoes follow a different rule: for each return you pay 50% of the fulfillment fee. At a fulfillment fee of €3.38 (small parcel 3, DE only, up to 100 g), that is €1.69 per return.

Refund of the referral fee

If you refund a customer the purchase price, Amazon gives you back the referral fee. Amazon keeps a refund administration fee from it: 20% of the referral fee, at most €5.00. Amazon’s example: an item costs €10, the referral fee is 15%, so €1.50. Amazon keeps €0.30 of it.

Amazon does not refund FBA fees on a return.

Removal, disposal and liquidation

The stock does not sell, or it can no longer be sold. You can have it returned to you, disposed of or liquidated. The prices apply per standard-size unit.

WeightReturn to youDisposalLiquidation
0–200 g€0.50€0.74€0.42
201–500 g€0.79€1.19€0.52
501 g–1 kg€1.80€2.73€0.93

Above 1 kg, return to you costs €2.32 plus €0.87 per kg, disposal €3.74 plus €1.41 per kg, and liquidation €1.02 plus €0.53 per kg.

For oversize, return to you costs €2.46 (up to 500 g) to €10.49 plus €0.86 per kg, and disposal €3.74 to €15.23 plus €1.55 per kg. For liquidation, Amazon also charges a referral fee on the proceeds.

A return to another country (zone 1) costs €0.60, €1.04, €2.18 and €2.80 plus €1.43 per kg in the same weight bands. Returns from the UK to another country are not possible.

Prep and labeling

Since 1 July 2026, Amazon no longer offers a prep and labeling service for FBA shipments in its European stores, also not for stock sent through Amazon Global Logistics (AGL). You have to prep and label your goods yourself (Amazon help page Prep service). The rate card still lists prices for this service on page 24; they no longer apply.

One fee remains: if a shipment lacks box content information, Amazon charges a manual processing fee of €0.18 per unit.

Worked example: FBA costs per unit

Now let’s work through the tealight holder from purchase to return. The example is invented; the fees come from the tables above. The glass holder measures 20 × 20 × 20 cm packed, weighs 350 g plus 100 g packaging and costs €16.90 including VAT. It is stored in Germany only, without the Central Europe Programme.

Purchase, freight, packaging: the landed cost includes everything up to the Amazon warehouse. For 1,000 units:

CostAmount
Supplier (1,000 × USD 2.50, rate €0.90/USD)€2,250
Sea freight including handling€850
Customs duty 6% on €3,100 (example value)€186
Transport within Germany€600
Packaging (design €250, production €900)€1,150
Product photos€300
Shipping to the Amazon warehouse€30
Total€5,366

That is €5.37 per unit. The 6% duty rate is an example value; customs will tell you the right rate for your product.

What is left per sale before returns? On the left the calculation for January to September, on the right for November:

ItemJan–SepPeak season (Nov)
Net selling price (€16.90 ÷ 1.19)€14.20€14.20
Landed cost− €5.37− €5.37
Referral fee (15% of €16.90, assumption)− €2.54− €2.54
Fulfillment fee standard parcel up to 1.9 kg DE only + 2%− €4.03− €4.28
Storage fee 0.008 m³, 1 month− €0.22− €0.42
Contribution margin before returns€2.04€1.59

The 15% referral fee is an assumption; the rate depends on the category. Amazon calculates it on the price the customer pays, so including VAT. In November the peak season raises the fulfillment fee to €4.20 (× 1.02 = approx. €4.28), and the storage fee almost doubles.

The box makes the difference: the fee is based on the 1.6 kg dimensional weight, not the 450 g on the scale. A flatter box of 20 × 20 × 10 cm would have only 0.8 kg dimensional weight. Then the small parcel up to 900 g applies at €3.40 DE only, €0.55 less per unit before the fuel surcharge. That is still not enough for Low-Price FBA: there the unit weight counts, and 450 g is above 400 g.

Then a holder comes back and can no longer be sold. Assume this happens to 5% of the tealight holders. Per return you lose the landed cost (€5.37), the fulfillment fee (€4.03), the storage fee (€0.22), the kept part of the referral fee (20% of €2.54 = €0.51) and disposal (€1.19 for 201–500 g). That is €11.32 per return.

Per 100 orders: 95 × €2.04 − 5 × €11.32 = €137.20. So €1.37 is left per order. No returns processing fee for high return rates applies, because 5% is below the thresholds in the table (for example 9.52% for “Everything else”).

The €1.37 is not profit yet: advertising and overheads come out of it. How much advertising the tealight holder can afford is shown by the break-even ACoS. For your own products, you can check the fees with Amazon’s Revenue Calculator (in the German Seller Central „Einnahmenrechner“, under Finanzen › Gewinnanalyse) or use our FBA Excel calculator.

Inventory age and storage fees per SKU in the Seller FBA Dashboard

One tealight holder, one SKU: you can check its inventory age by hand. With 200 SKUs across several marketplaces, you first have to find the ones heading towards 241 days. You pay storage fees every month.

The Seller FBA Dashboard in AMALYTIX shows the inventory age of each SKU in five bands: under 90 days, 91–180, 181–270, 271–365 and over 365 days. It also shows the estimated monthly storage fee per SKU. The bands are not the same as those of the aged inventory surcharge: in the 271–365 day band the surcharge is already running.

AMALYTIX does not show the aged inventory surcharge itself, and it does not predict it. Whether you run a promotion, remove stock or keep it is your decision.

The fulfillment fee can also change when Amazon re-measures a SKU. The alert “FBA SKU unit fulfillment change” shows sellers the SKU and the fee before and after.

Conclusion

For the tealight holder, the box height alone decides the fulfillment fee. Storage time and returns shrink what is left per order. So check your Amazon FBA fees at these points:

  1. Measure your packaging

For parcels, dimensional weight counts. A smaller box can save a whole size tier.

  2. Check the Central Europe Programme

Without the programme you pay €0.26 more for every unit shipped from Germany.

  3. Keep stock under 241 days

After that, the aged inventory surcharge is added every month, and from 271 days it is much higher.

  4. Watch your return rate

If it is above your category threshold, you pay a returns processing fee for every further return.

  5. Re-check fees

Amazon usually publishes new fees in December or January. Recalculate your products then.

Frequently asked questions about Amazon FBA fees

How much does Amazon FBA cost per item?

On the standard rates, fulfillment costs from €2.07 (light envelope, with CEP) to €6.65 (standard parcel up to 11.9 kg, DE only) per unit; oversize costs more. From 2 November 2026 the 2% fuel surcharge is added. On top come the storage fee and the referral fee.

How do I calculate dimensional weight?

Multiply the length, width and height of the packed unit in cm and divide by 5,000. For parcels and oversize, the higher of dimensional weight and actual weight counts.

How much does storage at Amazon cost?

For most standard-size products, €27.54 per m³ and month from January to September and €52.20 from October to December. Per unit you calculate volume in m³ × rate; at 0.008 m³ that is €0.22 per month.

Does the long-term storage fee still exist?

There is no annual long-term storage fee any more. Instead, Amazon charges an aged inventory surcharge every month from an inventory age of 241 days.

When do peak season fees apply?

For orders delivered between 15 October 2026 and 14 January 2027. In Germany they affect small and standard parcels, also in the categories with their own parcel table, such as clothing and shoes. They do not affect envelopes, oversize or Low-Price FBA.

A temporary surcharge on the fulfillment fee. From 2 November 2026 it is 2%, before that 1.5%, and it also applies to peak season fees.

How do I calculate the FBA fees for my product?

Determine the size tier and the shipping weight, read the fee from the table and add the surcharges. Amazon’s Revenue Calculator works it out for one ASIN. You find a full example in the worked example.
